Leadership
The Group is led by a Board comprising a Chairman, independent Non-Executive Directors and Executive Directors.
Management
The management team of the group is made up of a crop of seasoned and industry-recognized professionals, with diverse (but complementary) skills in various backgrounds, as well as depth of experience (garnered from national and international institutions). Over the years, these executives have brought their knowledge, experience and leadership to bear on the development and delivery of solutions (through products and services) to meet the needs of our customers and, in the process, contributing to sustaining the performance of the group till date.


Chinedu Obeta

Chinedu Obeta, holds an MBA (Banking and Finance) from the University of Nigeria. He is an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered). He has over 20 years experience in banking.
He is currently MD/CEO of UBA Zambia. Prior to his appointment as MD/CEO of UBA Zambia he held various positions in the Banking Industry as follows:
1. MD/CEO for UBA Sierra Leone.
2. Business Manager at UBA Plc.
3. Executive Director of Wholesale Banking at UBA Sierra Leone

Mike Mwemba

Mike Mwemba holds a Post Graduate Degree in Forensic Accounting from Davenport University, Michigan, USA and an MBA Finance from the same university. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management from Glasgow Caledonian University, UK including an MSc, Information System from Ferris State University, Michigan, USA. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner, a Fellow of both the Institute of Risk
Management and Chartered Insurance Institute, UK. He has over 39 years of work experience. He was once Managing Director & Principal Officer of Zambia State Insurance Corporation and Managing Director Cavmont Capital Insurance. He is currently a Consultant at Forensic Analytics Limited in Lusaka Zambia under which Company he has conducted Risk Assessments on Companies including a Bank.
Mike Mwemba is on the Board of Choongo Community Resources as Chairman; Institute of Directors Audit and Risk Management Committee as a member; and the Zambia College of Pensions and Insurance Trust as Independent Trustee. He is also past Vice President of the Insurers Association of Zambia; and former Member on the State of Maryland Commissioner of Insurance Education Board (USA).

Dr. Chabuka Jerome Kawesha

Dr. Chabuka Jerome Kawesha (DBA): Business Administration (Telecommunications Management) from Atlantic International University, USA. Dr. Kawesha is a well-renowned compliance and regulatory affairs practitioner who has provided valuable support to various companies including the public sector. He has strong Non-Executive Director experience from sitting on the Board of a number of Public Companies.

Felix Nkulukusa

Mr. Felix Nkulukusa holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Zambia and a master’s degree in development economics from Williams college USA. He possesses strong experience
in strategic management, corporate governance and in external resource mobilization. He also has commendable board experience having sat on and chaired the committees of several Boards, including the Zambezi River Authority Board, the ZESCO (Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation Limited), the Zambian Airport Corporation (formerly National Airport Corporation) Board, and the Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO) Board.
Mr. Nkulukusa possesses relevant trade negotiation, coordination and advocacy experience. He led the Article IV consultation discussions with the IMF. He also led bilateral and multilateral Cooperation discussions with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Union (EU), Department for International Development (DFID), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Sweden, Finland, Denmark, among others. He was part of the Zambia Trade Negotiating Team representing the Ministry of Finance during the negotiations of the South African Development Community (SADC) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Trade Protocols as well as World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Negotiations.

Oliver Alawuba

Oliver Alawuba 51, has over twenty years experience in lecturing, academic research, and banking, Oliver Alawuba has a broad, hands-on experience in corporate and institutional banking, consumer, retail and commercial banking, project management, public sector, corporate governance, and overall bank management. He was a lecturer at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine of Imo State University, Okigwe, Nigeria (now, Abia State University, Uturu) before joining Diamond Bank Plc, where he rose from Executive Trainee in 1993 to Senior Banking Officer in 1997. He was a key foundation staff of Standard Trust Bank (now, UBA Plc) between 1997 and 2002, rising to Assistant General Manager before his employment with FinBank Nigeria, where he rose to the position of Executive Director. He was appointed the Managing Director/CEO Designate of UBA Cote d’Ivoire in August 2010 and later the Managing Director/CEO of UBA (Ghana) Limited in March 2011. After a successful stint in UBA Ghana as MD/CEO he was elevated to the position of CEO, UBA West Africa with effect from January 1, 2014 to oversee UBA’s subsidiaries in Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Guinea, Liberia, Benin, and Sierra Leone and was later the Deputy CEO, UBA Africa supervising Wholesale Banking businesses in 18 African countries. He was Directorate Head, Public Sector and Personal Banking and currently the Regional CEO, Anglophone Africa. Oliver Alawuba holds a BSc degree (Second Class, Upper division) in Food Science and Technology from Abia State University, Uturu, M.Sc in Food Technology from University of Ibadan and MBA in Banking and Finance from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Nigeria. He has attended numerous foreign and local courses and is an alumnus of the Senior Executive Programme (SEP’66) of London Business School, United Kingdom and the Advanced Management Programme (AMP) of INSEAD Business School, France. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management, member of the Nigerian Institute of Directors, Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology and Honourary Senior member, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.

Christine Manyando

Dr. Christine Manyando 55, is a physician and clinical research scientist with a Ph.D. in
Medical Sciences obtained at the University of Antwerp in Belgium. She currently works
for Tropical Diseases Research Centre (TDRC) in Ndola, Zambia as head of Public
Health Department and team leader for the Malaria Research Group.
She has served as a member on several Boards such as:
- The African Malaria Network Trust (AMANET) Scientific Coordinating Committee
(SCC) - European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnerships (based in the
Hague, The Netherlands) - Developing Countries Coordinating Committee (EDCTP- DCCC),
- Quality Management Advisory Committee (QMAC) of WHO-TDR based in
Geneva, Switzerland - Medicines for Malaria Venture Expert Scientific Advisory Committee (MMVESAC-
also based in Geneva, Switzerland) - The Seeds of Hope International Partnerships (SoHIP)
- UBA Zambia Limited.

Charles Mpundu

CHARLES MPUNDU 51, is currently the Managing Director of Lewanika Energy Corporation and played a vital role in stabilizing NAPSA to the trillionaire institution it has now become following its transformation from National Pension Fund (NPF) in the late 1990s. Charles, 51, studied actuarial science at Southampton University. In fact, he was the first Zambian to venture into this rare profession. In 1993 he joined ZCCM Group Insurance and worked as a management trainee. Shortly after that, he was moved to Mukuba Pensions as an actuarial assistant. In 1996, he got involved with the privatization of Zambia State Insurance Corporation when Zambia Privatisation Agency. During which period he lectured part-time in mathematics and statistics at Copperbelt University. IN 1997 he joined Cavmont as General Manager for Cavmont Securities. When he left Cavmont he joined NAPSA as Investments Director and rose to be Director General. He was chairman for Zambia State Insurance Corporation Pension Trust Fund from 2002 to 2004. He was Chairman for the Barclays Pension Trust Fund. He was Commissioner General for Workers Compensation Fund. He was Chairman of the Pan African Building Society Board.

Abel Ng’andu

ABEL NG’ANDU, 45, is the Managing Director of Ng’andu Consulting Ltd/ALD Plant and Fleet Management Limited a position he has held since July 2009, he is also a major shareholder of the Company. The Company has been involved in various Government Projects which include designing, upgrading and rehabilitation of Roads in Zambia. The Company also has a presence in Rwanda and South Sudan where it is involved in various infrastructure projects. Before becoming Managing Director of Ng’andu Consulting Ltd He was the director and Country Manager of N’gandu UWP Consulting. He has also worked as an Engineer for Civil Resources Ltd and Brian Colquhoun High O’Donnell & Partners in Zambia. In addition, he worked for the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department in India. Abel holds a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Roorkee, he has 17 years of practice as an Engineer.

Christopher Tembo

CHRISTOPHER TEMBO, 60 is a Zambian National who holds a BSc degree from the University of Zambia and an MBA from Edith Cowan University In Australia. He has over 25 years experience in Information Technology. He has worked for Zambia Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (now ZAMTEL), Barclays Bank Zambia Limited and Zambia National Commercial Bank Limited. He also worked as MIS Project Manager at Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company Limited under the African Development Bank (ADB). In addition, he is also a business entrepreneur who has diverse interests ranging from the Financial Sector, Infrastructure development, and energy sectors. He is part of the team that pioneered the establishment of the first wireless broadband internet services in Zambia with Africonnect Zambia Limited. He sits on the following Boards of Masimba Construction Zambia Limited, which he chairs, Global Technical Solutions Limited, Smartpay Solutions Limited, Koza Telecoms Limited, Real-time Africa, Africonnect Zambia Limited and UBA Zambia.

Stanley Ugwueze

Stanley Ugwueze has over 20 years banking experience with 19 years in business development. He holds an MBA in Banking and Finance with an under graduate degree in Finance from The University of Nigeria. Stanley has held various positions in The UBA Group such as Head of Retail Banking, Area Manager as well as Regional Director. He has worked for HSBC in the United Kingdom where he was involved in the Relationship Management of the 400 top performing Branches allowing the Branches to focus on sales. Prior to relocating to the United Kingdom, Stanley was Group Head Retail for Liberty Bank and was part of the rescue team that restored confidence in customers resulting in the Central Bank of Nigeria lifting a Holding Action on the Bank.

MacDonald Chama

MacDonald has over 20 years experience in the Banking Industry and 14 of these have been at senior level. He holds BSc (Financial Services) from University of ManchesterUK, Chartered Associate of the Institute of Financial Services (CAifs) –UK and Associate of the Zambia Institute of Banking and Financial Services (AZIBFS). He also holds a certificate in Accounts & Business Studies by Examinations Council of Zambia. He has held positions in Corporate, Retail, Credit Risk, Change Management, Branch Expansion & Project Management, Foreign & Trade, Pension Fund Management, and Treasury Operations. Prior to his current appointment, he worked for Barclays Zambia Plc and Intermarket Bank with his last appointment being that of Head of Operations at Intermarket Bank.

Kalengo S. Simukoko

An alumnus of the University of Leicester’s School of Management in the United Kingdom, Certified Financial Consultant and holder of an MSC in Finance. Kalengo is a seasoned banker with over 15 years experience in Corporate and Consumer Banking and the Construction Industry. Prior to joining UBA, Kalengo held senior risk management positions at Barclays and Standard Chartered Bank Zambia Plc respectively

Muzala Shinka

Muzala, joined UBA Group in 2013 upon his return from the United Kingdom, having previously held senior management positions at Barclays as Country Head of Trade Finance and Transaction Banking and at Standard Chartered where he was Associate Director in Wholesale Banking for 4 years. He is well read and travelled and has previously worked in South Africa, Kenya and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Muzala Shinka holds a first class masters degree in Economics from a first class university in England. He holds several undergraduate degrees and qualifications.

Jean Couvaras

Jean joined UBA on 20th January 2014 having previously worked for FINCA Zambia Limited, a Microfinance organization as Legal Counsel. Before then she worked with Simeza Sangwa and Associates, as a Learner Legal Practitioner and was admitted to the Bar and then became an Advocate. Jean is also a part-time lecturer with ZCAS lecturing Banking Law in the UNZA Corporate Law program which is administered at ZCAS. She is a lawyer by profession and was admitted to the Bar in December 2009. She graduated from the University of Zambia (UNZA) in 2008 with an LLB and pursued a Masters in Law from UNZA where she graduated in 2013.

Tola Adebayo

Tola has over 14years of banking experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from University of Ado-Ekiti. She has worked in various countries including Nigeria, United Kingdom, Uganda and now Zambia. She joined UBA in 2008 were she has held several senior positions including Country Head Retail and Country Head products.

Sylvester Kasonde

Sylvester holds a degree from the University of Zambia in Demography and Economics and is currently pursuing an MBA. He has 15 years of human resource experience. He worked at Standard Chartered Bank as a Resourcing and Development Manager for 5 years and held other senior human resource managerial positions. He joined UBA in 2009 as Head Resources and later appointed as Head Retail Banking in 2013.

Edwin Oji

Edwin holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (Hons) in Economics and is an associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. He has over 13 years Banking experience in audit. He joined UBA in 2005 as a team leader and as a result has vast understanding and knowledge of the Group policies and procedures including control practices. He was redeployed to Zambia to head the Audit and Control Department in 2012.

Chileshe Vernon Kangwa

Chileshe has over 12 years experience in banking, finance, audit, and compliance. Prior to joining the group, Chileshe held senior finance positions in Cavmont Bank Limited. He also gained experience in audit and compliance during his time with KPMG Zambia and Grant Thornton Zambia. He is a member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) and graduated from the Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies (ZCAS) where he studied for his Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Shalumba Shimukowa

Shalumba has over 7 years of marketing experience and is an associate member of the Zambia Institute of Marketing. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas, USA and an MBA from Curtin University, Australia. Prior to joining to joining UBA, Shalumba was Marketing and Public Relations Officer for AB Bank.

April Zaloumis Kapala

April graduated from Monash South Africa in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Communication and Media Studies (double major). She joined United Bank for Africa in 2009 as Talent Resourcing and Career Management Officer from Mac Recruitment where she was a Recruitment Consultant and Occupational Assessment Officer. She has been with UBA for 5 years and now holds the position of Head Human Capital Management.
